The Loneliest Girl in the Universe [Book Review]

Hey ✨

How are you today? Is it really warm where you live? I’m living in Scotland and the weather has been so hot these past couple of weeks that we even manage to go to the beach and get into the water (whaaaat? I know!). Of course I took my book with me and spend some nice time reading and getting vitamin D. Not sure a sci fi book is the best choice for a beach day though 😀

The loneliest girl in the universe by Lauren James follows the story of Romy Silvers who is the only surviving crew member of a spaceship travelling to a new unknown planet where people are supposed to set up a colony. She is completely by herself until she learns another spaceship left Earth to join her and help her with successfully completing the mission. A boy named J is on board and he’s her only human interaction. However, something’s not right and she starts feeling a bit wary. What does she really know about J? What are those weird messages she receives from Earth?

I didn’t know anything about the book before I started it and I think that’s the way you should go into it because you’ll enjoy it a lot more. There are twists and turns and you don’t know who to trust. There’s definitely mystery and suspense which kept me guessing who’s lying and what’s real. The chapters are quite short and they read like a diary so you can fly through the book very quickly.

I related a lot to Romy in terms of loneliness and isolation because I feel the same way not when I don’t have university and I spend most of my days by myself. It is difficult and I can’t imagine what stranded in space must feel like. I was also wondering – would you agree to go on a space mission? I am curios but I feel like the lack of sun would depress me to much.

If you are looking for a quick, suspenseful and entertaining read, then definitely give the book a chance!

Let’s be friends 🌈 Do you like reading sci-fi books? If yes, do you have any recommendations?
